  Teaching objectives
           To convey the basic science knowledge for professional nursing education and allow students to have solid foundations for basic sciences of chemistry, biochemistry, and mathematics, the section provides general educational concept for introductions to environmental education and applying science, and for the benefit of the subsequent bio-medicine and professional nursing practice courses.
   
  Teaching and Researching
           The design of the chemistry and biochemistry courses opened by the section is different from the profound concepts of science and engineering department and medicine department and the difficulties in understanding; descriptions of profound chemical principles are provided through simple examples, which are suitable for students with nursing background and minor chemical foundations. In addition to extending the reinforcement to the prior basic chemical concepts, chemistry and organic chemistry concepts related to pharmaceutics and physics are further added, and, in turns, exploring the biochemistry changes in the energy of biological metabolism. In addition, for the sustainable development of the environment on earth, the section established environment introduction and environmental education courses, in the hope of rooting the concept of environmental protection through education and starting from our own. Furthermore, the mathematic and biostatics courses provide training for students’ logical thinking capacity and research statistic methods.
           Apart from the general teaching, teachers in the section often participate in cross-school cooperative research, such as programs to improve vocational schools’ basic education, environments and persons, and school cooperation programs of organic chemistry and biochemistry.
  Future Development
  Ⅰ. Develop computer-assisted teaching software to improve learning interests and make use of video teaching to improve learning effects.
  Ⅱ. Organize seminars, observe and learn teaching materials and teaching methods of different schools.
  Ⅲ. Propose various integration programs with teachings in different sections of NTUNHS to establish cooperative research and interactions.
  Ⅳ. Increase inter-school cooperation, develop cross-school research plans, and exchange relevant research information and new knowledge of basic science.
